What is it?
-----------

MPlayer is THE movie player with support for multiple platforms. This package
is an unofficial, unsupported and slightly limited Win32 binary (missing some
codecs and a limited GUI) from CVS and nothing more.

Compared to most other mediaplayers MPlayer has better fault tolerance, better
performance and superior postprocessing filters which gives better image
quality. You can even play broken files and AVI's without index. Just try it,
most problems you might have with other players should go away for good. You
should be able to say goodbye to strange artifacts, wrong colours, sync
problems, performance problems, unsupported fileformats etc. MPlayer simply
rocks!

If the image is distorted, try turning off
hardware acceleration in the configuration file with -vo directx:noaccel.

The best way to use MPlayer in Windows is to edit your filetype settings to
play your movies with the MPlayer executable.

You can play VCD/SVCD imaged as .BIN-format by simply doubleclicking the .BIN-file.

You can play VCDs by playing the .DAT or .MPG files that Windows exposes on VCDs.

It works like this (adjust for the drive letter of your CD-ROM):

mplayer d:/mpegav/avseq01.dat
mplayer /d/MPEG2/AVSEQ01.MPG

DVDs also work, just set the DVD device correctly to whatever your DVD device is:

mplayer -dvd <title> -dvd-device '\\.\d:'

The compilation options used in this version should allow you to play movies
with the following formats and output drivers:

MPlayer has builtin codecs and can support up to 61 audio & 169 video codecs
including support for most MPEG, VOB, AVI, OGG/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV,
QT/MOV/MP4, FLI, NuppelVideo, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many
native codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5 and even WMV
movies, too.

Usage
-----

The best way to use MPlayer in Windows is to edit your filetype settings to
play your movies with the MPlayer executable Go to "Tools->Folder Options->
File Types" in Windows Explorer or right-click a file and select "Open With"
and choose "C:\Program Files\MPlayer\mplayer.exe".

Help
----

This package is an unofficial and unsupported binary release and therefore
you're on your own and shouldn't nag the developers about any issues you may
have. This wasn't released by them so they will probably just ignore your
complaints or requests. If it works it's great but if it breaks something or
simply doesn't play your favourite movies don't yell about it.
