Hmm... millal seda siis planeerituakse, ei ole juttu artiklis. 2021 ?
Kaks sõitu oleks huvitavam küll - olen Quali ajal tihti tukkuma jäänud.
Selle olukorra saaks läbi mängida simracingu tüüpide poolt. Kommentaarium loobib kohe pori ja kõik teavad täpselt, kuidas F1 põnevaks teha. Nii kahju, et need maailma helgemad pead netis kommenteerimisega hõivatud on.
Jube põnev oleks küll kui kõik autod maksimaalselt erinevad oleksid. Oleks üks tiim, mis võidaks kõik etapid ja see jääks F1 viimaseks hooajaks.
Berniel olid ka mingid hullumeelsed ideed nagu mingeid rajalõike meelega märjaks pritsida - noh, vihma sõidud on ju alati väga põnevad olnud.
Eelmine aasta üritati paar esimest etappi kvalifikatsiooni rutiini muuta - kulmineerus täieliku fiaskona, mida oli tegelikult ka ette näha.
Kunagi proovisid Saudid teha sellist asja nagu A1 GP. Igal riigil on identne auto ja võistlevad omavahel erinevad riigid mitte vennad Schumacherid.
Autod tuleb võimalikult võrdseks teha, et asi põnev oleks. Mõõdasõite tuleb rohkelt võimaldada ja sellisel juhul ei ole see kvalifikatsioon enam kuigi oluline. Pangu või eelmise etapi tulemuse järgi joonele. Kui katkestasid, siis stardid viimasena. Kui rohkem katkestajaid, siis esimene katkestaja on viimane jne. Saaks aeg-ajalt ka need kiired poisid viimastelt kohtadelt startida.

Vormel-1 uus omanik Liberty Media peaks reedel Bahreinis tegema teatavaks, millises suunas liigutakse reeglimuudatustega pärast 2020. aastat.
Kardinaalseid muudatusi regulatsioonides varem teha ei saa, sest kuni 2020. aastani kethib praegune Concordia leping. Kuid juba sarja Bernie Ecclestone'ilt üle võtmisest alates on Liberty Media pidanud pikki läbirääkimisi Rahvusvahelise Autoliiduga (FIA), kuidas kuningliku võidusõidusarjaga edasi minna.
Briti meedia usub, et need plaanid näevad sel nädalal Bahreini GP eel ka lõpuks ilmavalgust. Liberty Media kavatsustest kuulevad esimesena korraga kõik 10 vormel-1 tiimi ja neli mootoritarnijat (Mercedes, Ferrari, Honda ja Renault).
Kõige suuremad muutused ootavad arvatavasti ees mootoriregulatsioone, sest Liberty Media on varem mõista andnud, et näeb seal märkimisväärset kulude kokkuhoiu potentsiaali. See ei meeldi kindlasti Ferrarile ja Mercedesele, kes on lubanud pärast 2020. aastat F1-st lahkuda, kui sarja juhid kokkuhoiupoliitikas liiga radikaalseid samme plaanib.

The Australian GP helped to establish the pecking order for the upcoming races and there were no great surprises. Mercedes remain the team to beat, massively helped by the fact that their qualifying mode ensures they will have pole position for all but the very slowest circuits. Their customers are supposed to have exactly the same spec power units but Force India and Williams were 13th or lower on the grid. Yes, that is a function of them having lousy chassis but Williams in particular were complaining of a lack of power so maybe there is something going on.
Qualifying is finished as a spectacle if the true odds of one team is 1/4 to qualify on pole position and I tend to agree with Christian Horner who says that qualifying modes should be banned. Of course that suits Red Bulls agenda but predictability at the front of the grid is doing serious damage to the sports attractiveness.
Who is second best after Mercedes? Some say Ferrari, I would tend towards Red Bull. We didn’t get to see much of Red Bull’s potential as Ricciardo was starting 8th after a grid penalty and Verstappen damaged the underside of his car at the start and was struggling with its handling after that. There was just a few hundreds of a second between Ferrari and Red Bull in qualifying but Red Bull seemed stronger in the race and Ricciardo set the fastest lap of anybody on Sunday.
Haas have indeed jumped up to be the fourth best team and perhaps the wheels nut fiasco was due to the added pressure on the wheel men to pull off a perfect stop when they are racing for big points rather than farting about at the back of the midfield.
It must be a good car as many team bosses are up in arms over Haas relationship with Ferrari, implying some sort of skulduggery. The fact that the FIA have cleared them at every step of the way seems to have been missed by the critics. That said Haas are still at least a second a lap off the pace of the back of the big three and the gap between the elite teams and the midfield looks to have increased on last year. Renault slot in after Haas, then McLaren, Force India, Williams, Sauber with Toro Rosso last.
The Bahrain International circuit is different to Melbourne’s Albert Park. It’s a purpose built modern facility with huge run off areas and a wide track which should hopefully allow more overtaking than we saw in Australia. The circuit features four straights, some heavy braking into first gear corners but also some medium speed curves.
Team by Team
Mercedes have won three of the last five Bahrain GP’s with Hamilton getting two and Rosberg one. They were denied a win in Australia due to Hamilton having made his stop earlier than Vettel who then benefited from pitting under the virtual safety car and emerge as the leader. As ever the Mercedes is in a class of its own in qualifying but it becomes less competitive when it is following a car in front. Hamilton’s attempt to catch Vettel was blighted by this and by the fact that he was looking after his engine as it was overheating slightly. A stick on for pole position but like Australia, this is a circuit which has not been kind to the pole sitter with just two wins in the last ten years.
Red Bull hasn’t enjoyed much success here in the hybrid era, not so much as a podium finish. Perhaps it’s the four straights that have made it difficult for the underpowered Red Bulls. They have closed that gap somewhat and while they should be in the hunt for a podium perhaps it will be Ferrari who is Mercedes main rivals this weekend. Of course Red Bull are the masters of in season development and no doubt they will have some new go faster parts this weekend.
Ferrari won here last season after also winning the Australian GP. Vettel has three wins in total (two in a Red Bull) and Kimi Raikkonen has been 2nd in the last ten years so maybe Kimi can have a strong race but would he be allowed to win? The new Ferrari seems to suit his driving style much better than recent Ferraris so it will be interesting to see how compares to Vettel this weekend.
The car seems basically sound but it is possible that Ferrari hasn’t quite fully understood how to get maximum performance from their new high rake set up. They will get there but it may take a few more races before that are getting the most from the car. Vettel admits that he is not yet 100% comfortable with the car and he is struggling as a result. Braking into corners is a particular concern and that is vital at Melbourne so it explains why Raikkonen out performed him in the season opener. Of course Vettel won the race so it is not a massive problem; it just means there is more pace to come. There are some crucial breaking zones at the Bahrain circuit so Vettel could struggle to get the best from his car again.
Haas will have spent the last two weeks licking its self-inflicted wounds and hopefully a lot of pit stop practice. The car is good, well balanced and the drivers now have the confidence to push it to the limit and know that it will behave as expected. Last year that was not the case and Grosjean and Magnussen love it. Haas scored a 5th place here in thier debut season in 2015 so the track holds good memories for them. Grosjean has only failed to finish in the points once in six starts here and he had back to back podiums in 2012 and 2013 for Lotus. He loves the track and says there are lots of overtaking opportunities so it is great for racing.
They now have a car that can pick up a podium if the top teams stumble but they will have to sharpen up operationally, people notice mistakes when there are big points at stake and this may be a weak spot for the team.
Renault is maintaining upward momentum as they see the fruits of the investment coming through on to the track. As a works team they will be able to keep up a good pace of development but they are coming from a long way behind and any podiums this year are likely to be the result of a good helping of good fortune. Neither driver has enjoyed much success here and Sainz has never made that finish line in Bahrain. Their 7th and 10th place finishes in Australia were massively helped by the Haas double DNF and Bottas’ problems in qualifying. They are in the hunt for minor points only unless they get retirements form those ahead.
McLaren were relatively disappointing in the opening race. The fact that they have switched from the hopeless Honda power unit to the more powerful Renault as used by Renault and Red Bull means that they have no more excuses. Last season they said that their chassis was up there with the best but now they are still qualifying outside the top 10.
Problems in winter testing put McLaren on the back foot as they had to spend time fixing problems which meant final development work was put on hold. They will have new barge boards for this race, they were due for Melbourne, and these are hugely important parts for aerodynamic performance. The team are hopeful of a significant gain of several tenths, if so they will be in with a chance of outperforming Renault and getting into Q3 and scoring some more points.
Force India got off to a disappointing start in Australia and last year’s 4th best team will have a job to maintain that position. That said they often start slowly and improve through the season. New parts are coming on stream; some will be seen this weekend so expect some improvement. The problem is that everyone else is doing the same thing and Force India is not the most resource rich team on the grid. The rumour mill is, as ever, predicting financial doom for the team as they need new inward investment and in reality, a new owner.
Williams were expected to struggle in Melbourne and they didn’t disappoint. The car looks a real handful and in the hands of two very young and inexperienced drivers that is a recipe for disaster. It is hard to see how Williams are going to make the car more drivable in the short term and I expect them to struggle again this weekend.
Sauber are on a steep learning curve. The new car is a very different beast from last year’s dog and it seems the team are struggling to get the best from it. They will do so in time and their end of year performances are likely to be better than these early season races. There are too many teams ahead of them at the moment and points are some way off but Sauber are a team to watch carefully to see how they develop. They seem to have out raced Williams and Toro Rosso and the future looks reasonably bright at Sauber.
Toro Rosso ultimately disappointed in Melbourne. Winter testing had gone so well that expectations were quite high but when the real racing got underway the car was just too slow and they, along with Williams, were the only team to have a slower 2018 car than they had last year. Moving to the Honda power unit is the reason and once again we will have a season of promises from Honda. They have been saying that great improvements are just around the corner for three years now but like Donald Trump’s Mexican wall…..the reality is that nothing has been realised. Back of the pack fights with Williams is all they have to look forward to at the moment.
Conclusion:
The reality is that Mercedes hold the best cards. Their advantage in qualifying is still big and front row lockouts are going to be a boring certainty throughout the season. The car then massively benefits from running in clear air allowing their drivers to open an early lead, keep the opposition out of DRS range and then cruise to a win without stressing the power units. Occasionally they have a problem, like Bottas crashing in qualifying in Melbourne, or a strategy blunder that cost Hamilton victory, but it is much easier to win in a Mercedes than a Ferrari or Red Bull.
The fact that the pole position drivers here have struggled to win the race here in recent times does give some hope that we could see Mercedes challenged but they have done well here, winning three of the last four. It’s just that whichever Mercedes driver does qualify at the very front may be a little nervous that they are on the cursed pole.
Kimi Raikkonen is much happier with the way the Ferrari is handling at the moment, he has a good track record and he should have a competitive weekend. His problem is that he is the number two at Ferrari and will be expected to acquiesce to the German’s needs. If he can get a few cars between him and Vettel he may be allowed to run his own race but he will be used tactically by Ferrari if it can help improve Vettel’s result.. With his great record of for four 2nd places from the last six races here he looks a sporting bet to get another podium this weekend.

Free practice doesn’t matter in that respect and if Raikkonen is quicker in FP1 they will let him get on with it as a means to highlight where Vettel is falling short. Raikkonen was quicker than Vettel in FP1 in Melbourne and if Red Bull is losing out on the power stakes on this track then Raikkonen must have a good chance of being in the top 3 on a track he goes well on. Sadly he will probably be some way off the Mercedes but you never know and even a place will yield a small profit if he can do it.

Haas will hope that they can avoid another faux pas like the one that cost them a shed load of points in Australia. However everyone now knows that they are best of the rest at the moment and there will be no fancy prices about their two drivers this weekend. Grosjean in particular should be fighting for a top six finish. Two weeks ago we got 7.00 for a Grosjean top 6….it’s just 2.25 for this race and I can’t swallow that. Hopefully we can find a way to back him this weekend but there is no point taking short odds on something that will still require everything to go right.
Williams have dropped like a stone in terms of performance and in their rush to sign wealthy pay drivers, they are lacking an experienced head to try and lead them out of the mess. Sauber will have them in their sights and Williams are very much a team to oppose at the moment.
Hills have a special bet that offers 1.73 that Williams will NOT score a point by the time we reach race 5 in Barcelona. Unless we get a race of very high attrition that looks very likely to pay out. The fly in the ointment is that the Azerbaijan GP has been moved to race four this season and the Baku track has very much proven to be more suited to a demolition Derby than an F1 race. A maximum bet was in mind but that race does offer anyone who can finish the race a decent shot at points.
Ladbrokes offer a similar bet, no Williams points in the next five races which means after the Monaco GP at 3.75. Spain is a good test of a car and Williams have a poor car. Monaco can be a bit of a lottery at times with safety cars mixing up the order so you can get lucky there.
