Hi, firstly sorry about writing in English, hope it does not bother too many. I was told this would be the best place to write my question.
I have Telia home internet with router - Thomson TG784. Works fine. i use the lowest cheapest internet package 5down/1up. I noticed now on Telia homepage I can get faster (10down/2up) for the exact same price that I am currently paying. But when I tried to upgrade on their website it says my router (same as above) is not supported and I have to now take one of their 100€ routers (Inteno DG200). I cant upgrade without agreeing to pay for one of these new ones or declaring I already have one. But my point is that I don't understand why I should need one when I believe my current router can have no problems handling such a slow speed of 10down/2up.
Does anybody else have the same experience and can anybody confirm that I would have no problems just pretending to Telia I already own one of these Inteno routers and just use my old one. According to Thomson TG784 it should be able to handle way higher broadband (100down/10up).

Because 10/2 is VDSL technology (5/1 is ADSL technology) and TG784 does not support that, so that's why you need to get Inteno DG200 that supports VDSL. If you don't want to pay 100€ for new router, then you can rent it for 2.99€/month.

Judging by the information on this page the older Thomson TG789vn seems to support VDSL, too. However, I have never used that router on VDSL so I wouldn't know first-hand. People often sell this router second-hand on this forum or over at osta.ee.

Indeed Thomson TG789vn works with VDSL and it's widely available on the second hand market for about 10 EUR.
As long as you don't have a VDSL compatible router available, don't upgrade to newer VDSL package. Upgrading will disable the current ADSL package and leave you without internet with your current ADSL-only router (that's exactly what happened to me and the ADSL>VDSL change can not be reversed).
