Plaan uus arvuti kokku panna ning ketaste lahendus oleks järgmine:

2TK SSD ketast Raid 1 ja lisaks suurem HDD ketas. Arvuti läheb puhtalt töö jaoks. Seega oli soov saada SSD kettaga kiirust juurde. Lisaks Raid 1 - andmete kaitset juhul kui üks ketas kaob ära ning varukoopiad tulevad HDD peale.

Soov on saada suuremat kiirust ja andmete kaitset RAID kaudu + lisa koopia tegemine.

1. SSD'dest tehtud RAID1 on kahtlane asi, arvestades SSD eripärasid (trim vajadus, ootamatul ärasuremisel kaasnevad omapärased ilmingud jms). Lisaks ei kaitse RAID1 ei kontrolleri vigade (mida SSD puhul võib veel rohkem esineda kui HDD puhul) ega enda juhuslike näpukate eest. RAID1 eesmärk on tagada suure pidevkasutusega serverites teenuse 24/7 püstiolek. Mitte backup. Backupi jaoks on arvutist väline HDD, mis võib olla ka võrguketas.

During the initialization stage of these RAID levels, some RAID management utilities (such as mdadm) write to all of the blocks on the storage device to ensure that checksums operate properly. This will cause the performance of the SSD to degrade quickly.

Kas keegi lükkab need väited ümber või tõesti ei ole see hea mõte? Raha taha kindlasti ei jää, pigem olen mures stabiilsuse koha pealt, kuna kaks korda on juba juhtunud kus süsteemi ketas andis otsad ja backup oli tegemata

Is it possible to install my OS on my SSD, and then RAID a partition of my traditional drive together to create a backup so i will not have to worry about the SSD failing a week or 2 into buying it? Will this defeat the purpose of using a SSD?

Raid SSD and reg HD not good idea,
You can use backup software to synch the drives.
for example install windows and all u want on ssd, then clone it to same size partition on other reg HDD, then set it to update maybe once a day or auto,
this way you get speed of ssd+complete backup, even if ssd fails u can simply boot from other drive and have all your stuff.

I'm running something like this and am very pleased with the results. I'm using a Vertex2 60gb as my boot drive, and then a pair of 2TB drives in RAID 1 as my primary storage drive. I set up windows 7's backup feature to back the system drive up once a week to the 2TB mirrored array. Performance is good all around, the 2TB drives these days easily push 100MB/s transfer rates and I still trust their reliability better than any SSDs being made now.

Oskab keegi soovitada mõnda hea lahendust, kus saaksin kasutada SSD ketast kiiruse pärast, samas oleks süsteemi ketas RAID 1 ning loomulikult varukoopia tegemine lisa kettale.
