Kingston launches SSDNow V+ 180 1.8-inch SSDs in Europe

Kingston Technology has now expanded its solid state drive offering through the EU introduction of the SSDNow V+ 180 line of SSDs which feature a 1.8-inch form factor and target both consumer and enterprise applications. The new drives utilize MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory, have 128MB of cache, a SATA 3.0 Gbps interface, TRIM support, a MTBF (mean time before failure) of 1 million hours, and are capable of read and write speeds of up to 230 MB/s and 180 MB/s, respectively. The SSDNow V+ 180 SSDs are backed by a three-year warranty and will be available very soon in 64GB (€180), 128GB (€312) and 256GB (€737) capacities.

The JEDEC Solid State Technology Association announced today that its standards subcommittee has released two new standards for evaluating the reliability and endurance of solid-state drives. As more SSDs appear on the market, JEDEC hopes to use the new standards to "reduce market confusion, facilitate broad adoption and alleviate product quality and reliability concerns." This should be a benefit to consumers looking to compare SSDs from different manufacturers and make purchasing decisions that accurately meet their needs. The new system will replace the previous method of testing "mean time between failure" with two new metrics: JESD218 Solid-State Drive Requirements and Endurance Test Method and JESD219 Solid-State Drive Endurance Workloads. Further class ratings will be set to differentiate between consumer and enterprise levels of performance. JEDEC's comprehensive approach to defining these performance factors "will go a long way towards enabling market confidence in SSDs,” said Scott Graham, Vice-Chairman of the JC-64.8 flash memory subcommittee. A solid-state drive tutorial is planned for October 5th in San Jose to help with introducing and implementing the new standards.

Intel postpone 25nm SSDs to February 2011

Intel has started mass production of its new NAND flash circuits with 25nm technology, which will lead to substantially higher storage capacities. We now have reliable information that points to that 25nm products will not appear before February 2011, but in large quantities. When chip giant Intel launched the second generation SSDs in 2009 the demand outpaced the supply long into 2010. The good news is that Intel does not intend to make the same mistake with its third generation SSDs. As we've mentioned in the past it has already started manufacturing NAND flash circuits with 25nm technology and with good yields supply should cover the demand at launch. Intel's first SSDs with 25nm technology was expected to arrive in late 2010, but according to new information supplied to NordicHardware we will only see a refresh of Postville with a new 120GB model in the retail series X-25M, still using 34nm chips and G2 controller. The market adjusted capacity is the big news. Performance will not be changed from current G2 models. Intel's G3 series of SSDs is not expected to hit stores until February, but will bring noticably better performance then. This has been prioritized by Intel accourding to our source. With competitive performance on most fronts, and better availability this looks like one interesting launch. Unfortunately we will have to wait longer before Intel actually launches the drives, but that also gives us some more time to dig up more detailed information on the performance and specifications. It might be worth mentioning that other companies have shown SSDs with Intel's new 25nm NAND flash circuits. It is highlyunlikely that any of these can, or are allowed, to launch SSDs with circuits from Intel before Intel can start shipping its G3 series. This is just a qualified speculation on our behalf.

Resistor Intelil on 4k read ~2x kiirem ja 4k write ~4x kiirem.
Kas see ka mingis olukorras reealselt tunda annab, ei tea.

Kahju jah, et normaalset 1,8" IDE varianti pole, saaks väiksed Dell arvutid (D420, Latitude x1, D430) või EEEPC 901 ellu äratada
