***Takatsuka first scuppered fans hopes by revealing that there will be no
online or LAN play in the PC version of Pro Evo Soccer 3 and that both PS2
and PC fans will have to wait until at least Pro Evo 4 before online play
becomes a reality - and even then, there's no guarantees (although Pro Evo 4
online looks "most likely" on PC, if it happens at all).

EXCLUSIVE: PRO EVOLUTION ONLINE FACES THE DROP

PC, PS2, sick as the proverbial, but Xbox may sneak into playoffs

15:18 A new season heralds the perennial clash of two footballing
heavyweights - not the handbags at ten paces we witnessed recently at Old
Trafford - but the brilliant Pro Evolution Soccer versus the mighty FIFA
franchise.
With the hugely anticipated Pro Evolution Soccer 3 slated to appear on PS2
and PC - it's the first time the series has come to PC - we dispatched our
scout to bring you this special report from a top secret Pro Evo training
camp in Switzerland, where he managed a few words in the shell-like of Pro
Evo Soccer Producer, Shingo Takatsuka of Konami Tokyo.

There, Takatsuka, who labours under the unlikely moniker of "Sea Bass", was
persuaded to reveal his innermost thoughts on the state of both Pro Evo 3
and the holy grail that is online football, where the all-conquering Pro Evo
is still currently chasing the game behind the newest version of FIFA
Football 2004.

Takatsuka first scuppered fans hopes by revealing that there will be no
online or LAN play in the PC version of Pro Evo Soccer 3 and that both PS2
and PC fans will have to wait until at least Pro Evo 4 before online play
becomes a reality - and even then, there's no guarantees (although Pro Evo 4
online looks "most likely" on PC, if it happens at all).

While the coincidental bombshell of confirmation of Pro Evo 4 on the PC was
being absorbed, Takatsuka went on to reveal that he didn't think FIFA
offered a decent online representation of football.

He revealed that Konami has actually been testing a version of Pro Evo
Online for just over a year, but stated that the series will only go online
when the team manages to make the online experience as good as the offline
experience.

Although Konami apparently now considers that it has hit the limit of what
can be achieved with the PS2's current hardware, Takatsuka confirmed it will
remain the lead platform for all future Pro Evo development... for the
moment.

Takatsuka had further bad news for 'Cube owners too, as the chances that Pro
Evo will ever appear on Nintendo's console in Europe remain marginal
following disappointing sales of Winning XI 6 (the Japanese equivalent of
Pro Evo 2) on GameCube in the console's home territory.

However while the 'Cube faces relegation, there's a good chance that Xbox
owners may be pushing for promotion, as Takatsuka described himself as
"excited" about Xbox Live and what it had to offer. He revealed that Konami
is taking a long, serious look at an Xbox version of Pro Evo. Watch this
space.

Well, that should give Pro Evo fans more than enough footballing bombshells
to digest for the moment, but be sure to tune in to our full and
comprehensive interview with Shingo Takatsuka. which will be appearing next
week.

kuigi tõenäoliselt tuleb online fännide poolt nagu vice citys

yes, banne pole. Tänx digebeni.
Uudis PES4 tuleb arvutile ja online

GVG-st
The greatest football videogame in history just got a whole load better on PS2 and PC. But what happened to online? Find out about this and more in our unmissable, exclusive interview with KCET inside
19:43 Forget FIFA; forget This Is Football; in fact forget every other football game ever released, as the Pro Evolution Soccer series - now in its third iteration on next-gen - has consistently run rings around the opposition, to provide the most terrifyingly accurate, orgasmically thrilling representation of the beautiful game money can buy.
FIFA might have the glitz, the glamour and the big names, but Pro Evolution Soccer gives you the heart and soul of football, and for serious fans of the sport, nothing else comes close to the meat pie-and-Bovril genius of Konami's undoubted masterpiece.
With PES2, Konami came closer than ever to toppling EA's phenomenally successful FIFA franchise in Europe, providing the first serious challenge to its seasoned dominance.
And with Pro Evolution Soccer 3, due for release in Europe later this month, (with a first ever PC version to follow) markedly superior to the its predecessor in all departments, the gap must now surely narrow further...
Or perhaps not; as for every last atom of gaming brilliance Konami has squeezed into PES3, the disappointing lack of any online functions on either PS2 or PC could mean it's advantage FIFA once more, which boasts full online play on PS2 in Europe.
Is this serious corporate short-sightedness on the part of Konami or an astute tactical decision from a company wishing to bide its time and strike back decisively and ruthlessly at the opposition? We sat down to discuss this very point and much more with legendary PES overlord and series producer Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka.
What are the main improvements you've made over Pro Evolution Soccer 2?
Takatsuka: As for the modelling side, I'd say the biggest improvement was acquiring six club licences and to make the kits as real as possible. We have also been able to design the original club kits in the game.
We also changed the camera to make it behave more like a real-life live football camera - it's a small detail but that was a big improvement for us over the last version. Also, there are more polygons for the players and more detailed faces.
In terms of the game engine, we used Renderware last time, but for PES3 we've used an original Konami game engine, therefore the graphic level has gone up a lot. Everything has been adjusted and improved.
Was it hard to make it play the same when replacing the engine?
Takatsuka: It was kind of difficult; however there were no real disadvantages as since we had access to a greater memory capacity, we could apply it to AI in the game. In this way it was good for us.
What about other changes?
Takatsuka: Another aspect was not necessarily AI, but stadiums. We've added four new stadiums and enhanced the existing ones from PES2. The second biggest point is probably the Master League, which we changed the concept of: we wanted to represent the European Champions League a little better this time.
The AI has been boosted; we just wanted to make it more realistic. Also, we have changed the awareness of attackers and defenders a lot. For instance, there are now two types of awareness you can give to your players on the pitch, whereas previously you could only set one direction - i.e. left or right. Now you can have both, so tactically AI has been enhanced dramatically.
For the first time ever you're bringing Pro Evolution Soccer onto PC, which we're all really excited about. Did you encounter any difficulties in the transition and can we expect any kind of online or LAN play from the PC version?
Takatsuka: It's basically a port; the biggest enhancement on PC is the graphical upgrade over PS2. As for online, it's not yet implemented in the PC version at all, however I predict that since we're experimenting in producing our online element, you'll probably see it first in the PC version in our future titles.
So if the next version is most likely to be online on PC, does that mean you're unable to confirm that Pro Evolution Soccer 4 on PS2 will be online in Europe? People are obviously disappointed that PES3 has no online functions.
Takatsuka: Sooner or later, we will go online. It's likely PC will be quicker, but that does not mean PES4 on PS2 won't be online. We experiment all the time and sooner or later we will go online.
FIFA is obviously your key competitor, and while those in the know seem to be in agreement that PES is a much better game, it seems all the good work Konami has achieved with PES over the last couple of years in Europe, in terms of catching up with FIFA, has been undone by not being online.
It's almost like you've handed the advantage back to FIFA, which is online on PS2 this year...
Takatsuka: Yes, I understand your point. But if you will allow me to say it, I don't believe FIFA's online is a good example of online play at all. Therefore when we go online with our games, we would like give you exactly the same experience of playing the game offline. That's why we didn't take the challenge this year as we did want to have a bad online adaptation.
Is this something that's being actively worked on behind the scenes?
Takatsuka: Yes it is; we've been working on it for more than a year now.
Winning Eleven [the Japanese name for Pro Evo] Tactics has just been announced and was shown at TGS - can you tell us more about that, please?
Takatsuka: It may be a little hard for you to imagine, but Sega has a big hit in Japan called the "Become a Manager" series - it's never been released in Europe. If you don't know the game, the best way to express Winning Eleven Tactics is, it uses the Winning Eleven engine, but you won't play it as an action soccer title.
You are the manager of the game; you have to think of the tactics, look after the HR side of things. It's a management game but you're not the general manager of the club, more the head coach role, like Arsene Wenger. That's the main concept of the game.
As you've pointed out, it's a very Japanese concept - any chance we'll see it in Europe?
Takatsuka: We haven't decided yet but of course we are thinking of releasing the game in Europe. The current version that was announced was of course based on J-League, but it's very possible, in terms of gameplay, that if we have the right licences we could release it with no problem in Europe. We have to work on the licensing aspect.
Going back to PES3, people are going to be disappointed that the player rosters are out of date again. This is particularly noticeable with Chelsea, who've had so many late changes.
Can you explain why they are so far out of date and can't be updated now, when there's still a month before the game releases?
Takatsuka: We regret the old rosters we have in the game and we understand the problem. One of the reasons is that we get the licence from FIFPro, the players association, and we have to submit the rosters in advance so we can get approval.
Therefore, even if we were allowed to make changes at the very last minute, it would take so much time to be approved it wouldn't be possible.
We knew there would be a problem, so the team has tried to make manually changing players as easy as possible, so the fans can do it themselves. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes the fans and the team understands this.
So when the game does go online, do you plan to allow players to download up-to-date rosters?
Takatsuka: Well, the Japanese version is currently online to some extent, but due to FIFPro licence restrictions, we don't update the rosters because we don't have approval for that.
Officially Konami would not be able to put such a site up, however I will try to make it possible for the users to maybe upload it. If we were to go online, you could change the rosters that way, and I expect big fans would co-operate with us on that.Do you see that this is one of the key problems in Europe? The game is undoubtedly a masterpiece and the press eulogises endlessly on how great the game is, but in terms of PES actually moving to the next level in terms of consumer appeal and sales, it seems these are the type of things you need to get right to give the game the mammoth success it deserves?
Takatsuka: Yes, I totally understand your point. I know that EA has an advantage here compared to our games, but I do not just wish to be a sand bag and get hit by EA all the time; we are preparing to hit back in terms like licensing.
And from a programming point of view, one of the things we could do is to make it easier to change the rosters, because I feel FIFA's rosters are a little more up-to-date, even though we're aiming to release at the same time. We will not stop trying to improve the efficiency of making these changes.
Pre-order demos of PES3 are now doing the rounds in Europe ahead of release - can you give us any hot tactics?
Takatsuka: First of all, PES3 is different even from Winning Eleven 7 [the Japanese version it's based on] - the game balance is different. I would recommend using the R2 button while dribbling for instance.
Also, the crossing into the box has changed a lot - if you're someone like Figo, you should cut into the box more before putting in a cross.
You've said previously how some Japanese players approach PES like a strategy title rather than a game of football, with seven man defences and that kind of thing. Isn't this is a bad thing as it's not about football as such, and have you done anything to stop this in PES3?
Takatsuka: When I go to watch competitions in Japan, people have the weirdest formations, like having just one player on the left or on the right. That was in the past however; we've acknowledged this and tweaked the game so that playing like a football team gives you the advantage.
For instance, in terms of defending, PES3 has much stronger defence than PES2. We've been criticised a little that defending is almost too tight, but if you play the game like real football this will give you an advantage.
Can you give Xbox or GameCube owners in Europe any hope that they may receive a version of PES soon?
Takatsuka: PS2 is our main console - this will not change. However, we are near the limit of the PS2 hardware itself. We are really looking forward to creating on a PC platform as there are other areas for us to explore; and with Xbox, we're really interested in Xbox Live because it's very appealing from a development point of view.
We'll let you in on a little secret... The team has not started on the Xbox version yet, however the team is very interested in Xbox Live in terms of the technology and the infrastructure Microsoft has, but that's about all we can say today, as our President is here [laughs].
As for GameCube, it wasn't so much of a success in Japan, so there's only a small chance of us doing another version. However, we always want to keep our opportunities. But I would like to emphasise that PS2 is our main platform.

ja PES3 sai max punktid
SPREAD THE NEWS! Yep, the perfect score. PES1 and PES2 only got a 9/10 while the last version of FIFA got an 8/10, FIFA 2004 should be reviewed next issue, but they're not sounding to keen on FIFAs new game play at the moment.

PES3 PC for £18! on ettetellides hetkel hind

Lõpp versiooni pildid(PC) pildistatud: http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81395

PES3 ettetellitud üle millioni : Pro Evolution Soccer 3 tops a million pre-orders
Rob Fahey 11:05 07/10/2003
Konami's footy contender guaranteed a high place in the holiday season sales ranking

Publisher Konami has announced that it has received over a million UK pre-orders for this year's update to the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise, which arrives at retail on October 17th.

Although it's not clear whether that figure represents pre-orders from retail or actual customer pre-orders, it's still a hugely impressive number - and suggests that the game may enjoy one of the largest first week sales figures ever in the UK.

Last year's Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is getting close to 1.5 million units sold, with a recent boost provided by a Platinum release of the game in September. The Japanese edition of PES3 - Winning Eleven 7 - is enjoying huge success, and is still in the top ten there after around two months on sale.

Konami's October 17 launch will represent the first shot in one of the now-traditional Christmas retail battles - as the other huge football franchise, Electronic Arts' FIFA, launches its 2004 version only weeks later. As ever, there are other pretenders to the throne as well - with British publisher Codemasters hoping this year to capitalise on the loyalty of fans to their individual clubs with the Club Football range of individually branded games.

CVG preview:
PRO EVO 3 - MASSIVE IN-DEPTH PREVIEW!

First ever footage, exclusive screens and unmissable impressions on the greatest sports on the planet

15:28 The wait is almost over, football fans. While our national team collapses into shambolic disarray, you can console yourselves with the fact that the latest addition to Konami's legendary Pro Evolution Soccer series hits the back of the net across Europe from October 17. Next Friday!
The footy gaming hardcore has know for years that, in terms of raw gameplay, Pro Evo is unsurpassed in its field, booting the competition into touch with an astonishingly realistic, utterly compelling recreation of what is clearly the greatest sport on the planet. Except for David Blaine-baiting.

PES2 was a masterpiece of game design in its own right, but what is most arresting is that PES3 actually feels 100 percent better - we're not exaggerating. The improvements come mainly in the details, of course, but once you spend a little time with the game you'll find the difference amazing.

One reason for the overall amelioration may be that Konami has now ditched Renderware, the middleware it has used to create the game engine in previous PES titles, in favour of its own proprietary engine.

In terms of visuals, when you first clap eyes on the game it doesn't exactly blow you away, and next to FIFA 2004 has an almost dated air about it. But, rather like playing the game itself, you only really appreciate the excellent attention to detail after a period of exposure. It's probably fair to say Konami and EA have a very different approach to visuals.

Obvious improvements like higher poly counts for player models and greater facial detail are a given, but the massively increased range of animations makes a huge difference, with players moving more realistically than ever before.

And this has a knock on effect on gameplay, allowing for an unprecedented level of precision when playing - see for example how players really jostle an opponent with the ball, trying to win position, rather than shambling along like a drunkard as in PES2.

And while PES3 lacks the polish and flashy charm of EA's latest FIFA title, it allows for greater detail in key areas - see, for instance, what happens when you zoom far out in both games: in FIFA the shirt numbers become incomprehensible, whereas in PES you can still clearly make them out.

Another key advantage Konami's game has over FIFA in this area can be seen when a goal is scored. In FIFA, once the ball has crossed the line it's effectively dead and the game cuts to a rather artificial celebration scene. But in PES3 everything is in real time, so you see can see the ball almost rip through the back of the net, and while the ball's still bobbling, the scorer has already started celebrating, punching the air with delight while turning away from goal.

It's a small detail for sure, but it adds a huge amount to the sense of immersion making you really feel a part of the experience.

As we said earlier, in terms of control, PES3 really does feel 100 percent better than it's illustrious predecessor - it's just dreamy, and once you become familiar with the game, going back to PES2 just feels plain wrong. The game that replicates football like no other, just got a whole lot closer to the real thing. The pace of the game just feels so right and everything has been tweaked and tightened to put you in control as never before.

One new feature is the range of special skills available to some of the top stars, accessed via the right analogue stick. Zidane, for instance, can do a crazy turn or a sexy little chip with a quick flick of the right stick.

Indeed, in terms of stuff you can actually do with the ball, PES3 is leagues ahead of FIFA, and well-versed players can construct some amazing set plays using a range of deft touches and tricks. Compared to the fast-flowing, smooth periods of football you get in PES3, FIFA seems laboured.

Dead ball events, on the other had, are a little disappointing. Free kicks involving the keeper become confusing as you try to shift the camera around, and we've still to make our minds up as to whether we like the throw-ins or not. Dare we say it, but FIFA might have the edge in this area... And we really don't like the addition of handball - for a game that does so much to promote skill, such an arbitrary element only detracts from the experience. But thankfully it happens very rarely.

Now, unfortunately, we have to send Konami to the back of the class in a big dunce's cap, because where Pro Evolution Soccer 3 really lets itself down is with licensed content. We hoped lessons would have been learned from last time around, but PES2's failings in this area have been disappointingly replicated in the sequel.

There are only six fully licensed teams in the game - including players and accurate kits - five of which are Italian and one Turkish. The England kit is also wrong, but at least they got Japan and Korea right. Oh.

Club teams have made up names - 'Lloyd' being a particularly ridiculous example - and we'd guesstimate that around half of the player names in the game are made-up or incorrect. Some of the rosters are also frustratingly out of date: Chelsea are massively wrong, although that's understandable considering the last minute spending spree; less forgivable is having David Seaman still at Arsenal, but at least Beckham's at Real Madrid.

Also, fans of less popular Premiership sides lose out, with the likes of Southampton and Portsmouth missing the cut. Off the shelf, PES3 has much the same problems as last year, and this is ultimately why FIFA, with far greater accuracy and even Nationwide League teams, outsells its nearest rival.

It's disappointing as it holds the game back from achieving the stratospheric status it so richly deserves; and to add to the frustration, this is one area downloadable content could have fixed relatively easily.

But content gripes aside, the fact remains Pro Evolution Soccer 3 is a work of genius, the best football videogame ever conceived by miles and miles. In our minds it is without question the greatest sports title ever made and one of the very best offline multiplayer experiences you'll ever have.

If you own a PS2 or PC and love football, you'd be utterly bonkers to miss this. And having played the PC version as well, the game plays perfectly with a decent joypad and the graphics are even sharper. Stay tuned for our full, definitive review very soon, but in the meantime take a look at our exclusive direct feed footage and shots of England vs. Brazil
