IMPORTANT! This tool must be run in Administrator mode.
What is this tool?
This tool attempts to replace the default Segoe UI Shell Font in Windows Vista. For many,
especially those with CRT monitors or some LCD monitors, ClearType is not a very good
option. Vista uses Segoe UI for the user interface Shell Font. With Clear Type turned off,
Segoe UI is not very readable. This tool allows you to assign Arial or Tahoma as the system
Shell font. Please read the included documentation for more information.
First, make sure that ClearType is turned off, and Font Smoothing is set to Standard. To do
this, follow the steps below:
1. Right-click on your desktop, and select "Personalize".
2. Select "Window Color and Appearance".
3. Select "Effects..."
4. Make sure "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:" is selected.
5. Make sure "Standard" is in the drop down list. Then press OK and Apply.
Next, you may have already done this, but make sure you remove Segoe UI from all the
standard locations you do have control over.
Do steps 1 and 2 above, then select "Advanced". Change out every instance of Segoe UI to
Tahoma (I use the default size 8 ).
After the above, run the NoSegoe.exe program. The program will not delete the SegoeUI font.
It will however add a new entry into the FontSubstitutes registration key, and also de-list
the Segoe UI fonts in the Fonts registry key.
Arial and Tahoma are included in the list, but you can type any font name you want. It must
be typed exactly as it is listed in Windows. Do not type the font file name (e.g. arial.ttf).
Make sure you login and logout, or reboot, after you make any of the font changes.
Alternately to running the SegoeUI.exe application, you can run the .REG files included in
the zip. They do the same thing as the tool itself. If you want, you can open the .REG files
in Notepad and see exactly what is actually happening.
The main program can undo any changes, as well as the .REG files.
The only thing that I could not do was to control the font size with NoSegoe. I am not
sure how to adjust that.

not work for you. I may be able to experiment around some more with other settings.
