Kõige suurema summa, mida on siin viimasel ajal keegi maksnud Euroopast," rääkis Mihkelson.
"Väga kurb on näha seda. Iga euro põhimõtteliselt, mis venelastele makstakse hispaanlaste poolt ja kõigi teiste poolt, kes Euroopast Vene gaasi jätkuvalt ostavad, läheb Ukraina hävitamiseks ja Euroopa vastu suure sõja ettevalmistamiseks," märkis Mihkelson.
"Siis on täiesti õigustatud küsimus, loomulikult mitte ainult Ameerika Ühendriikidel, vaid minu arvates ka kõigil teistel liitlastel, ka meil, et kas me astume liitlasruumis kõigis küsimustes ikka ühte jalga," ütles Mihkelson.
While neither country commands broad support, China surpassed the United States in global approval ratings in 2025, with a median of 36% approving of China’s leadership, compared with 31% for the U.S. China’s five-percentage-point advantage over the U.S. is the widest Gallup has recorded in China’s favor in nearly 20 years.
BREAKING | China has told Danish shipping group Maersk and Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC Shipping) to cease operating ports on the Panama Canal, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.
In a meeting with China's state planner last month, Maersk and MSC Shipping were told to withdraw from the Balboa and Cristóbal ports immediately, the report said, citing two people familiar with the talks.
Maersk and MSC were told not to "engage in illegal activities that harm the interests of Chinese companies, and to uphold commercial ethics and international rules," the report said.
Panama has granted temporary 18-month concessions to keep the terminals operating, with APM Terminals, a unit of Maersk, managing Balboa and TIL Panama, a unit of MSC, handling Cristobal.
CK Hutchison has faced heavy criticism from China since unveiling a plan in March 2025 to sell 43 ports in 23 countries, including the Balboa and Cristóbal ports, to a group led by BlackRock and Italian Gianluigi Aponte's family-run shipping firm MSC.
Do Magyar and Orban have anything in common?
Both Fidesz and Tisza are considered to be conservative, populist parties. Over the years, however, Fidesz has been moving more and more to the right, potraying Orban as Hungary's guarding from malicious forces abroad. Most notably, Orban has repeatedly hindered EU efforts to deliver aid to Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
On Monday, Magyar said he supports Ukrainian EU membership, but would not support a "fast-track" acension to the bloc.
"For one thing, we are talking about a country at war; it is completely out of the question for the European Union to admit a country at war," he said.
Magyar said that every member state had to be treated the same, and that he would need stronger guarantees on the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine in order to fully support its bid.
Like Orban, Magyar has taken a hardline against immigration. According to Peter Kreko, he has "emphasized that he would like even less immigration to Hungary than the previous government."
That said, Kreko did not think Hungary would be seeing much of Orban in the future. "His political comeback, even in the middle or long run, is questionable," after how Hungarians viewed his friendliness with Russia, Kreko added.
Tisza garnered 138 seats of Hungary's 199-seat parliament in Sunday's election with 53% of the vote, while Fidesz got 55 seats and only 38% of the vote. As soon as parliament convenes, it is expected that Tisza's two-thirs majority will swifty elect Magyar as prime minister.
mathematically it amplifies the votes of small constituencies (usually rural ones that fidesz is advantaged at) and almost entirely negates the party list's balancing effect. in a fair system the list mandates would go to the party that lost out on individual constituencies but still got a sizeable chunk of the total votes. in hungary's system, despite fidesz doing worse on the individual mandates (only 10 out of the 106, despite getting 39% of the vote) they only got 42 list mandates, as compared to tisza's 45, a party that collected the other 96 individual mandates with only 53% of the vote.
the system as a whole skews extremely towards the winner, and specifically toward the one who can win in rural areas. since 2011, when fidesz enacted this system, every single party who ever won got a supermajority -- as it is by design, it was built to negate the political influence of left-wing urban voters. the only thing they did not design for is for tisza to win it all instead of fidesz.
i'm actively elated that tisza won, and glad fidesz practically handed them the tools to undo the ways they broke this country, but i really hope the 2030 election will be in an actually fair and proportional system. tisza did promise as such, and while it's likely gonna take a year or two until they get there, i can't wait to see it fixed.

“Yesterday, you could feel a special atmosphere among the leaders — for the first time in years, there were no Russians in the room”
Tusk commented on a meeting of European leaders held without Orbán. According to him, the atmosphere was very warm and the discussion free from Moscow’s influence.
“At the inaugural session of the National Assembly, the European Union flag will return to the facade of the Parliament building alongside the Hungarian and Szekler flags,” Péter Magyar, the prime ministerial candidate of the Tisza Party, which won the April election, wrote in a Facebook post on Friday morning.

European Union leaders signaled that preliminary conditions are in place for Ukraine to begin the first stage of the membership process, a boost for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s efforts to join the bloc.
At a summit in Cyprus Thursday, leaders agreed the first accession negotiations could start in the coming weeks and months, according to an EU official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
But any commitment on a date for Ukraine to join the EU remains elusive. The membership process for Croatia, the last country to join, took about a decade.
Thursday’s discussion took place amid a fresh push by Ukraine to join the bloc after Hungary lifted its veto on a long-stalled €90 billion ($105 billion) loan to the country.
Earlier, Zelenskiy said that his country deserved “full-fledged” membership, rejecting proposals for an alternative path to the EU that’s faster but with fewer rights. It follows a push by France and Germany ahead of the summit for an “associate membership” option for Ukraine.
“Ukraine does not need symbolic membership in the EU,” Zelenskiy said in remarks provided by his office before arriving in Cyprus for the gathering. “Ukraine is defending itself, and undoubtedly defending Europe as well.”
Ukraine Is One of Nine With Official EU Candidate Status
The renewed enlargement push takes place after the block on the loan was lifted and member states agreed on a new package of sanctions targeting Russia — party due to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s election loss.
Arriving at the summit, Zelenskiy hailed the decision. “This is not just a positive decision, it’s not about just words,” he said. “It’s also about surviving.”

Officials in Kyiv and Brussels have been hoping that Orban’s departure will allow the accession process to gain momentum, particularly when it comes to formally starting to assess if Ukraine has met the required criteria to join. Orban had been blocking that process as well.
Peter Magyar, who scored an overwhelming victory over Orban this month, is expected to be sworn in as Hungary’s new prime minister in early May. But obstacles aside from Orban remain.
Despite agreeing to begin negotiations, there is little appetite among many member states to fast-track an application for a process that typically takes many years. Kyiv’s membership application is particularly sensitive because of concerns about the possible impact on the bloc’s budget, as well as on the agricultural and transportation sectors.
Speaking on his way into Thursday’s gathering, Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nauseda stressed the importance of a “merit-based” approach to enlargement, writing later in a post on X after meeting with Zelenskiy that he saw 2030 as a “target date” for the country.
Concerns that member states won’t embrace a quick accession process were heightened after Germany prepared a proposal that would grant Ukraine an “associate membership” to the EU, while moving forward with the accession process.
Under that plan, Ukraine would gradually be integrated into EU programs and attend the bloc’s meetings, but not have voting rights, according to the paper, which was seen by Bloomberg.
While Ukrainian officials have said they’re prepared to delay access to some EU programs, including its agriculture policy, Kyiv is adamant that it aspires to become a full member and wants firm commitments.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever expressed support for discussing different membership options for countries wanting to join the bloc.
“If we want to expand Europe it will probably be with the onion model of many layers of cooperation and I think we need to talk about that,” he told reporters ahead of the summit.
Zelenskiy has been pushing for a pledge to let Ukraine join as early as 2027 as part of any peace agreement with Russia. But the accession process usually takes years.
“We are defending our shared European values,” Zelenskiy said. “I believe that we deserve full membership in the European Union.”
Some member states offered firm backing. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said there’s no alternative to Ukraine’s full membership.
“We support Ukraine in European Union because, to be honest, there’s no other way,” Michal told Bloomberg Television in Cyprus.

Canada will seek talks with Brussels to gain access to the EU’s “Made in Europe” manufacturing scheme, its industry minister has said, as Ottawa looks to boost trade beyond the US.
Brussels last month unveiled plans to shield strategic sectors such as clean energy technology and heavy industry from unfair competition from third countries, especially China, by limiting access to subsidies and public contracts in those areas to EU-based businesses.
However, manufacturers from countries with which Brussels has trade agreements could also be included if EU companies are offered reciprocal access to public subsidies and contracts in those markets.
Canada’s industry minister Mélanie Joly told the FT that Ottawa wanted to make sure that industrial policy in the EU and Canada was “aligned”.
Asked whether that meant she thought Canada should be included in the “Made in Europe” scheme, Joly said Ottawa’s goal was “to engage the EU to have a reciprocal approach”.
“We need to be able to be aligned . . . then we will be able to actually have our businesses compete and prosper,” she said.
Any deal between Ottawa and Brussels over their industrial sectors would support Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s appeal for “middle powers” to work together to form an economic counterweight to the US and China.
Carney’s call, made at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year, was intended to counter protectionism and the influence of “hegemons and hyperscalers”, Joly said.
“We need to have the middle powers working together . . . really creating an economic bloc,” Joly added in an interview on the sidelines of the Hannover Messe industry fair in Germany earlier this week.
“We want to create a level playing field . . . for European companies in Canada, but vice versa also,” she said.
Canada and the EU agreed a trade deal in 2016. But Ottawa last year also announced its own “Buy Canadian” policy, which gives preference to domestic businesses for government funding in strategic sectors such as defence, health and infrastructure.
The EU’s “Made in Europe” bill, formally called the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), is designed to boost the bloc’s manufacturing output, which fell from 17.4 per cent of EU GDP in 2000 to 14.3 per cent in 2024.
It has, however, sparked concern among industries such as the German car sector and some member states that it could create barriers to free trade.
Clauses excluding trade partners from small electric vehicle subsidies or corporate fleet schemes have also sparked fears for car sector jobs in countries such as the UK.
EU officials have told the FT they are open to deals with third countries, which could be made after the IAA has been adopted, potentially by the end of the year.
The Commission declined to comment on Joly’s intervention but a spokesperson said that the IAA proposals ensure “trade partners covered by bilateral agreements have access to our public procurement markets”.
Access for countries covered by free trade agreements “depends on the specific commitments the EU has undertaken towards each country”, the spokesperson added.
In a bid to reduce its over-reliance on trade with America, Canada wants to double its non-US exports by 2035 and raise approximately $300bn in new deals in Asia and Europe.
