Witkoff: Which one?
Ushakov: The Russian–Ukrainian war.
Witkoff: I know! So how do we deal with it?
Ushakov: Buddy, I just want your advice. Do you think it would be helpful for our bosses to talk on the phone?
Witkoff: Yeah, I think so.
Ushakov: I see. And when do you think that could be arranged?
Witkoff: I think my boss will be ready as soon as you suggest it.

Because… let me tell you what I told the president. I told the president that you… that the Russian Federation has always wanted a peace agreement. I believe that. I told the president I believe that. And I think the problem is that we have two countries that are having a hard time reaching a compromise, but once we do, there will be peace. I’m even thinking that we might put together, say, a 20-point peace plan, like the one we had with Gaza. We developed Trump’s 20-point plan, 20 steps to peace, and I think we might do the same with you. My point is this…
Ushakov: Okay, okay, my friend. I think this is exactly the issue our leaders could discuss. Hey, Steve, I agree with you that he’ll congratulate us, say that Mr. Trump is a true peacemaker, and so on. He’ll say that.
Witkoff: But there’s something else that I think would go over great.
Ushakov: Okay, okay.
Witkoff: What if… what if… listen…
Ushakov: I’ll discuss this with my boss, and then I’ll get back to you. Okay?
Witkoff: Yes, because listen to what I’m saying. I just want you to say—maybe you should say this to President Putin, because you know, I have the utmost respect for President Putin.

Witkoff: Maybe he should tell President Trump: You know, Steve and Yuri discussed a very similar 20-point peace plan, and something like that would help move the needle; we’re open to that kind of thing — to working on what’s needed for peace.
Between you and me, I understand what it takes to make peace: Donetsk and maybe some other territory swaps. But listen: instead of talking like that, let’s be more optimistic, because I think that’s how we’ll get to a deal. And I think, Yuri, that the President will give me plenty of space and authority to reach a deal.
