Canonical to Ship Ubuntu 15.04 with Firefox and Its Own Internet Browser

Mozilla Firefox is still the default choice
Ubuntu 15.04 is shipping with a few interesting features and improvements, but it's also arriving with two Internet browsers installed and one of those browsers is developed by Canonical.

Canonical recognized the need of having its Internet browser for the Ubuntu Touch platform early on, and they have been working on it for quite some time. It's been available on the desktop platform, but not as a default option. It's basically the same code as the one that's running on the phone, but the application scales up to the need of the desktop user.

This application is the perfect example of platform convergence. The developers have built a single application that can be installed on the desktop and the phone. The same code runs on both platforms, and there is no need to have developers work on two separate branches. The browser scales up and it works just like any other app, so it's nothing mysterious about it.

The Internet Browser from Canonical is not complete

Users will notice that the browser has very few options and settings. It's still under development, so things are added all the time. With everything that's on Canonical's plate right now, you can imagine that developing a full blown browser that can rival with Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera is not possible. On the other hand, a minimalist application that can help users just browse the internet is always welcomed.

Ubuntu 15.04 launches tomorrow, April 23, and users will find that the browser is already installed. If you really want to, you can even declare it the default solution, instead of Firefox, but it's not near ready enough for this task.

You can download the latest version of Ubuntu 15.04 and give it a spin. The Browser can be accessed from the Live CD as well if you want to wait until tomorrow for the stable edition of Ubuntu.
