MS lubab odavat tahvlit:
Microsoft Announces $99 Windows Tablets
Microsoft's chief operating officer Kevin Turner revealed at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2014 in Washington today that the Redmond-based software giant is working to bring very affordable tablets to the market that could be sold for as low as $99 (73 euros).
Turner explained that these tablets won't be produced by Microsoft, but by the company's partners, suggesting that rumors pointing to a Chinese Windows tablet that would be available at very low prices are indeed accurate.
At the same time, Turner also said that a notebook which would be priced at around $250 (180 euros) and run Windows 8.1 could also see daylight, again with the help of partners across the world.
No other details have been provided, but Microsoft's COO explained that the launch could take place this fall, most likely before the holiday season.
Of course, such affordable devices are clearly supposed to compete with cheap Android tablets, which are still gaining ground despite all efforts made by Microsoft. It remains to be seen however if users agree to buy a Chinese tablet running Windows 8.1 instead of an Android one designed by a more famous company.
More to come on this in the coming months, as Microsoft is also said to be tweaking Windows licensing fees for OEMs, with devices expected to hit the market with prices below $250 likely to get a free version of the operating system.

More Cheap Windows 8.1 Tablets Arrive, the KingSing W8 to Sell for $99 / €72 – Photos
Last month we told you that one of the cheapest Windows 8.1 tablets in existence had been revealed at the Computex 2014 trade show in Taiwan.
The tablet was called Emdoor I8080, and while we did not have a definitive price for it, word had it that the 8-incher will start selling for just $100 / €73.
And as it was anticipated, more dirt cheap Windows tablets are coming our way. As GizChina notes, KingSing is a relatively unknown company that has so far put out a bunch of low-end Android smartphones.
Now the device maker is looking to attract customers by offering a Windows tablet that sells for just $99 / €72.
Since Microsoft has dropped the licensing fees for tablets with 9-inch screens or lower, it makes sense that the avalanche of super affordable Windows tablets is ready to begin.
Don’t kid yourself. These tablets will offer a bare minimum in terms of specs, but at least you’ll be able to access all your apps and use Word or Excel too if you pair a mouse and keyboard.
The upcoming KingSing W8 will arrive with an 8-inch screen offering 1200 x 800 pixel resolution and draw power from a quad-core Intel Bay Trail processor clocked at 1.8GHz and fitted with 1GB of RAM, which isn’t bad at all. The tablet also arrives with two cameras (5MP on the back and 2MP in front), microSD card plus USB and HDMI.
The tablet also supports Wi-Fi and is expected to launch in the upcoming weeks.
